"Unreasonable optimism of UNSCEAR 2000 review necessitates listing again the obviously proved negative effects of the accident on public health.":- higher number of spontaneous abortions and still births, growing mortality, larger number of weak and sick new-borns, growing number of genetic disturbances, growing number of birth defects, higher number of oncological diseases (not only of thyroid), disturbance (retardation) of mental development, growing number of psychiatric diseases including schizophrenia and "Chernobyl feeble mindedness", immunity disturbance, intensification of microbial diseases, change in hormonal (endocrine) status, growing numbers of diseases of organs of blood circulation and lymphatic system, respiratory and urinogenitary systems, skin, thyroid and other endocrine glands, visual organs, abnormally slow body-weight gain in children, delayed recovery after illness and accelerated ageing.

CHANGES IN MORBIDITY DYNAMICS IN CHILDREN LIVING IN AREAS WITH DIFFERENT LEVEL OF SOIL CONTAMINATION BY RADIOACTIVE CAESIUM Baida L K Zhirnosekova L M., Sci. Cent. for Rad. Med. AMS Ukraine Kiev.
Three groups of children living in areas of 23.7, 47.5 and 90.3 kBq per m2 [equating to annual doses of 90, 348, and 640 microSv) were studied. In 1988 morbidity was uniform across the groups, but by 1995 there was a correlation with increasing dose. The high dose group had 22.1 times the rate of blood and blood generating organ disease compared with the low dose group, infectious and parasitogenic 5 times, respiratory 2 times digestive 2 times. Health in the low dose group improved while the others worsened. Between 1988 and 1995 infectious and parasitogenic disease in the high dose group multiplied by 6.2, digestive 3.8, nervous system 3.6, blood and blood generating organ 2.3.

4000 people, mostly below 10mSv gamma dose. General marked trend to increasing non-cancer morbidity with age and with time elapsed since the accident. Endocrine disease dominated by thyroid pathology. Morbidity exceeds by 3-5 times that recorded for the evacuated cohort by National Register of Ukraine.
